Women in the Workplace

Lamees El Zeghaty
Leaders are now having different outlooks when it comes to female employees by providing them with a female-friendly work environment that accepts, celebrates and supports women in all positions they hold.
The scale has recently tilted in favor of women as the pandemic opened the doors to new perceptions when it comes to hiring the right candidate regardless of gender and building the right workplace culture.
Women make up a large proportion of any population; however, they are still underrepresented in the workforce which is one of the sole reasons why companies are committing to hiring more females. However, hiring females is not enough as it is also cardinal to recognize their hard work as key contributors to the success of the business.
The Best Workplaces for Women in the GCC list has celebrated organizations that accredit women and fully understand the added value they bring to a business.
According to the companies that made it to the Best Workplaces for Women list, there has been gains in women representation and these women have shared the best practices that make up a female-friendly workplace.
Leadership-level Diversity:
Companies have demonstrated their commitment to gender diversity by hiring women in leadership roles. It is highly impactful when companies practice and promote diversity as this gives them a competitive edge.
Leadership diversity fosters the confidence in employees as people apt to resonate with those who are similar to them. Furthermore, while seeing women in power, this invigorates female employees to aspire and work towards being future leaders.
The companies that have made it to the list; added women in managerial positions where their experience and skills can be utilized.
Women and men should be held to the same standards at the workplace when it comes to promotions, deductions and recognition. Companies that have made it to the Best Workplaces list have demonstrated fair treatment across all employees; manifesting the great work culture they have.
Appraisal cycle and Mothers:
Working women tend to feel left out of the picture after their return from maternity leave. As being gone on maternity leave, results in female employees being excluded from the appraisal cycle due to their absence.
A large number of women tend to leave their jobs once they become mothers due to them missing out on learning opportunities and promotions. Hence, companies are revamping their policies around maternity breaks; giving females equal opportunity as males ensuring that their appraisal doesn’t fall due.
Hiring females and equal career progression:
Gender balance recruitment is a key contributor to having great work environment that promotes inclusivity. There are many companies that are not settling for the bare minimum of hiring females, but are also conducting job descriptions reviews. These reviews are taking place to ensure that the language used in the descriptions are not off-putting to females that are jobhunting.
Female Perception:
Women in the workplace carry different perceptions than men. Companies are involving women in decisions in order to share their thoughts on matters. Involving women in decisions aids leaders in making the right decisions that shape the work environment.
